Presidents' Messages

A message from Carol K. Muranaka - HSBA President

At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.
--- Albert Schweitzer

Giving thanks.  That is what this month is all about.  It is not only a time of roast turkey, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie, but it is a time to be thankful, to reflect on one's blessings, to care and share with others.

I have been blessed with individuals who have volunteered their time and energy to assist in the work of the bar association during this year.  These individuals have served either as chairs or members of committees, which are the foundation of the bar.  By participating on these standing committees of the bar, they contributed in the mission of uniting and inspiring Hawaii’s lawyers to promote justice, serving the public, and improving the legal profession.

A message from John Roth - YLD President

Aloha All:

In honor of all who have served our country, I am proud to report that the YLD held a free legal clinic for veterans during Veteran's Day weekend this year.  Local attorneys, along with volunteers from the Veteran's Center and the Office of Veteran's Affairs, reached out to Hawaii's veterans by providing them with information about the federal benefits and services available to them as well as providing them with general legal information.  This one-day clinic, called PROJECT SALUTE, is a new public service project for Hawaii's YLD, and made possible with the support of the American Bar Association's YLD.  We hope that it continues to grow support in the years to come and reaches more veterans as one of the YLD's mission is to provide free legal information to underserved segments of our population.
