Message from our 2009 HSBA & YLD Presidents

It has been an exciting few weeks, packed with great moments, moving our bar association forward in serving our members.
My Valentine’s Day was spent in meetings at the ABA National Conference of Bar Presidents “NCBP” mid-year meeting in Boston. I heard about bar leaders & followers, legal technology, engaging younger & older lawyers, leadership seminars of other bars, as well as networking opportunities with national companies as bar sponsors. Magically, just as I was talking about HSBA’s communications and technology, the ABA tech show chair appeared and would like to assist Hawaii lawyers with a tech road show.

Message from our 2009 HSBA & YLD Presidents

Congratulations to the four finalists of the Mock Trial Program - Mililani High School, Moanalua High School, Kauai High School and Hilo High School.
All four finalists went undefeated in their respective matches. The final round of the Mock Trial was held on March 14, 2009 at the Hawaii Supreme Court building, Ali'iolani Hale. Mililani High School was the overall winner. Mililani High School will represent Hawaii at the National High School Mock Trial Championship in Atlanta, Georgia in May 2009.

Member Benefits Goes Bar Hopping
Member Benefits Administrator to visit Neighbor Island Bar Associations
Lisa Cutright, Member Benefits Administrator will visit neighbor island bar associations to update members on Member Benefits and provide LIVE Casemaker training. ABA Retirement Funds will present the ABA 401(k) Retirement plan information. Judge Hara in Hilo will address the East Hawaii Bar and Peter Lenhart will discuss Real Estate Conveyance in Maui and Kauai. A photographer will be on hand to take headshots for the 2009 Bar Directory. Lunch is provided.

Tokyo Dai Ichi Bar visit is a Success!
HSBA member Iwalani White and a member of the Tokyo Dai Ichi Bar practice the Hawaiian tradition of hula during a visit early this month.
President Rai Saint Chu along with her husband and former HSBA President, Richard Turbin and several HSBA members recently hosted a delegation from the Tokyo Dai Ichi Bar Association at their home.
