|
Dear Colleagues:
Governor Linda Lingle has announced the following judicial nomination, subject to Senate confirmation:
Mark Recktenwald as Chief Justice of the Hawaii Supreme Court.
Written comments on this appointee are sought in order to allow the HSBA Board to provide an informed recommendation to the Senate confirmation committee. If you desire to do so, please submit your written comments on the appointee as soon as possible, but no later than 12 noon, Wednesday, August 18, 2010. Please be as specific as possible in your comments and confine them to the following criteria used by the HSBA Board in reviewing a nominee:
Integrity and Diligence Legal Knowledge and Ability Professional Experience Judicial Temperament Financial Responsibility Public Service Health
Pursuant to existing Board policy, a finding that the nominee is "qualified" means that the nominee is able to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the office being filled.
You may submit your comments by replying to president@hsba.org which is returned to a confidential account at HSBA. Alternatively, you may provide written comments to any HSBA Board member directly, or you may fax comments to the HSBA at 808-521-7936.
Please take the time to read the Governor’s Press Release and familiarize yourself with the appointee.
All identifying information will be removed from your comments before they are reviewed by the Board but your written comments will be retained if it is necessary to contact you for further information about your concerns. This ensures that your comments will remain confidential. As is our procedure, the HSBA Board will interview the appointee and submit testimony at the Senate confirmation hearing based on a ranking in accordance with HSBA policies.
Thank you for your participation in this important process.
HUGH
