Professor Katyal kept over 400 HSBA members, guests and friends spellbound with his description of his representation of  “Mr. Bin Laden’s driver” all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court and a 5-3 ruling that the military tribunals established by the White House for ”combatants” detained at Guantanamo violated the constitutional separation of powers, domestic military law, and international law. Professor Katyal used this case to illustrated basic foundational principles of our Constitutional order and the critical role of the advocate in defending the unpopular.
