Commentary on LRIS Rule
New rule posted:
The Supreme Court has posted an amendment to the Hawaii Rules of Professional Conduct 7.2 which would allow HSBA to charge a percentage fee for registration for the Lawyer Referral and Information Service. Comment is requested by August 1, 2008.

Commentary:
This rule amendment has been proposed several times by the HSBA in an effort to render the LRIS self-supporting. The LRIS provides telephone counseling and referrals to hundreds of public callers each year, a service recognized by the bar and the legal community as one of several valuable community programs sponsored by the HSBA.   The amendment of this rule, and the HSBA's continued efforts to attract members to the LRIS listing, will financially support program this valuable community service program.
