Welcome to our December Newsletter!

It is hard to believe that my term as HSBA President is coming to
an end. It seems like yesterday I was scheduling meetings with various
committees, organizations, and individuals to begin planning for the year
ahead. It has been a year filled with many accomplishments and some
disappointments. But it has been fun and never dull.
I want to thank my fellow officers, the Board, committee members, and staff for all the assistance you
have provided me throughout the year. And I want to thank each of you who has
taken time to volunteer for a project or email or
write with your concerns, compliments, and the occasional criticism. I know that
the new Board and President, Jeff Sia, will take HSBA to even
greater successes, and I wish them well.
To all of you: a healthy and happy new year. I look forward to
the rest.

Bench-Bar Conference
Sixty attorneys and 70 judges
participated in lively and productive discussions at the recent Bench-Bar
Conference. A joint luncheon was followed by an overview of the
ICA, Rule 4, and on legal research engine Casemaker, then
breakout sessions on civil law, criminal law, or family law.
Here is a
link to an outline summary
of the criminal law group’s discussion.
Reports from the civil and family groups will appear in a future
e-newsletter. In the meantime, the civil law group has formed an ad hoc
committee to draft short and long forms for privacy protective orders. Please
see the January
Hawaii Bar Journal
for more details on the Conference.
