Katyal spoke at our 2007 Annual Meeting on his Supreme Court victory in
Hamdan v. Rumsfeld, a case that has been characterized as “…simply the
most important decision on presidential power and the rule of law ever.
Ever.” Katyal, an authority on the role of the President and Congress
in time of war and theories of constitutional interpretation, will
share recent research and observations on “Judicial Independence and
the Founding Fathers: A look at the Roberts Court” at the Annual
Meeting luncheon.

It’s
“Back to School” time and the YLD is gearing up to coordinate the
state-wide high school mock trial program for the first time. YLD
directors and volunteers are working on this year’s case, which will
soon be posted for schools to download. HSBA staff is working on a YLD
website to assist in coordinating volunteers and logistics for the mock
trial program and other YLD community service programs. I hope you had
a great summer and are ready to help the YLD!
