Bar Leaders Meet on Oahu for Conference
March 25-28, 2009
Bar leaders from 13 western states gathered at the Turtle Bay Resort for their annual conference where discussions were held on issues of interest to the leaders and practitioners in “the west.” HSBA President Rai Saint Chu welcomed the delegates to Hawaii. Professor Melody MacKenzie presented a traditional Hawaiian welcome and participated in a panel on Native Hawaiian and Native American Rights.
Lieutenant Governor Duke Aiona added an official State of Hawaii welcome and discussed various state economic incentives and the judicial selection process. Former Bank of Hawaii chief economist Paul Brewbaker analyzed the economic situation in Hawaii and the Asia-Pacific region, followed by a presentation on the Asia perspective on Globalization and the Lawyer presented by HSBA members Charles Crumpton, Christine Kubota, and Jeffrey Lau. In all, the HSBA members assisted in hosting a lively and enjoyable conference. Mahalo!
